Dear Amery,

C.O R-3 12492 MAR 5 1920

With reference to a few minutes' conversation with you at the House last Wednesday on the question of alleged child slavery in Hongkong, I think the enclosed newspaper cutting may be of interest to you in your enquiries and it certainly indicates that there was something in the complaints which reached me. The cutting has been lent to me by Lieut. Commdr. Haslewood, R.N., whom I mentioned to you as having written to the Colonial Office on the subject about a fortnight ago.

From various enquiries I have made, I gather that it is common knowledge that Chinese boys and girls are openly sold in Hongkong, and that there are professional brokers who effect the sales.
