With reference to few minutes
conversation with you at the House last Wednes-
day on the question of alleged child slavery in Hongkong, I think the enclosed newspaper cutting
may be of interest to you in your enquiries and
it certainly indicates that there was something
in the complaints which reached me. The cutting
has been lent to me by Lieut.Commdr. Haslewood,
R.N., whom I mentioned to you as having written
to the Colonial Office on the subject about a
fortnight ago.
From various enquiries I have made i
gather that it is common knowledge that Chinese
boys and girls are openly sold in Hongkong, and
that there are professional brokers who effect the
